Some courses require students to submit a dissertation proposal before they begin their research.
Even if your course does not, it can be a useful exercise which can make the process of completing your dissertation less stressful as you are clear on your purpose from the beginning of the process.
Dawson (2009) suggests the following structure however you should refer to the guidance given by your academic department.
1. Title | Your title should be short and explanatory. |
2. Introduction | A brief overview of the project itself. |
3. Background | Why are you doing this research and why is it necessary? |
4. Aims and Objectives | Usually one overall aim broken down into two or three smaller objectives. |
5. Methods/methodology | How you plan to conduct your research and why? |
6. Timetable | Detail important deadlines. |
