In this update University Library Services share library news and links to support we think staff and students at partner centres will find useful. It would be great if you could share these updates with students too where appropriate.
After a trial during the summer the University Library has purchased and implemented LibKey. LibKey is a research tool that delivers one-click access to full text subscribed and open access journals and ebooks. Students and staff can download a LibKey add-on for their web browser. When they search or browse online for example on publisher websites, Wikipedia or Amazon Books and click to view a title LibKey will link to the full text if available from our subscriptions or open access.
The University Library can support your student inductions in several ways:
The Library can now offer our partner centres an Information skills session on ethical use of Gen AI. These sessions would take place via Teams.

If you would like to book an induction support session or a Gen AI Session please contact the Distance Services Librarian (leanne.young@sunderland.ac.uk.)
Cite Them Right Online - the guide to referencing has recently been updated to reflect the latest guidance in the 13th edition of the book.
One of the main changes that we want to alert students about is that it is no longer necessary to include place of publication and place of distribution for printed books.
There is also new guidance on the use of generative AI.
The above link is for students. Partner staff should log into Cite Them Right Online directly - choose 'Login via your Institution'.

New Library Guides
Students and researchers often use reference management software to manage their citations. Library Services at University of Sunderland have recently launched a new Library Guide to support students and staff in using reference management software. The guide gives some guidance on using Zotero, Mendeley and Reference Generators.
For students who need to do a systematic search the liaison librarian team have recently published a new Library Guide. From deciding on a research question to appraising the research found, the Systematic Searching guide looks at the process of systematic searching, where to find help and support and suggests further reading.
