Study Skills- Presentation Skills

A study skills guide to support you to develop your presentation skills.

Introduction to the Checklist

When you are tasked with designing an academic poster as part of your assessment it is important to ensure that your poster meets the requirements that you have been tasked with.

These requirements could be in your assignment brief on canvas, module handbook or discussed in a session and distributed by your lecturer. It is important to ask if you are unsure where to find the specifications around your poster to ensure that it ultimately meets the criteria.

Questions to Ask

  • Size of the poster
  • Should you use a specific piece of software e.g. PowerPoint?
  • Should it be portrait or landscape?
  • Should information  be ordered in a specific way on the page?
  • Do you need a specific font, size, layout or line spacing?

Why not watch the video below to discover more about the do's and don't of creating an academic poster?

Can you think of any other questions that it would be useful to ask your module lead or lecturer before you start?

IDEA- Why not write down your ideas, maybe creating a mind map or a list, also considering the colours you will use and the size of each section, bearing in mind that your poster may need to be read from a short distance away?
