We know that student life can be hard, juggling the demands of your course with the pressures of life. Reading is one of the best ways to calm a busy mind, help you relax, and contribute to better sleep. Our collection of books is available to you, completely free, to help you find something good to read and enjoy some time out from your busy life. You can find our Reading for Wellbeing area in St Peter's Library, on the lower floor beside the lift.
Reading is free, you can take a book with you anywhere, and you don't need to use any screens or technology. This is a great way to give your eyes and brain a rest.
Wherever you live in the North-East, you can join the public library for free. This will give you access to print books, but your membership will also include access to ebooks and audiobooks - all for free as part of your membership! You can read ebooks on a specialised ebook reader (such as a Kindle) or using an app on your phone, tablet or laptop. You have to pay for the individual ebooks or pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee for the platform. Audiobooks can be a great way to enjoy a story while you are doing something else - for example, you can listen to an audiobook while driving, walking, cooking, or cleaning. When you're enjoying the story, you will always find an opportunity to listen!
