We pay for access to electronic resource subscriptions and collections to support the studies and research needs of our students and staff. Log in using your University user ID and password to access them.
Electronic resources (eresources) are protected by copyright law just like printed resources. Use of these resources is subject to the terms of a licence agreed between us and the publisher. Publishers' licences require certain conditions of use. All prohibit systematic or substantial printing, copying, or downloading of content, e.g. whole journal issues or whole books.
In addition to the conditions of use, each publisher's licence defines who may access their resource. These people are called 'authorised users'. Each group of authorised users has different access permissions.
Authorised users with accounts can access subscription resources using Library Search or by going directly to the resource and choosing the Academic/Institutional/Shibboleth option. There is no remote access to eresources for user groups without a user ID.
May access all our subscription eresources using their University user ID and password.
To arrange the setup of their user ID and password, partner college staff should contact their Faculty representative. They may access subscription eresources where the publisher licenses allow.
Visiting professors and research fellows should contact HR to have their user ID set up. They may access a subset of subscription eresources where the publisher licenses allow.
Emeritus professors need to contact HR to have their user ID set up. They may access a subset of subscription eresources where the publisher licenses allow.
Includes members of the University's Alumni Association, members of the SCONUL Access Scheme, ONCAMPUS Sunderland students, and retired staff. All guest types are eligible for 'walk-in' access to a range of licensed eresources whilst in our Library spaces, as defined by the publisher. Once you have registered with us as a guest, please speak with a member of Library staff if you would like access to these resources.
