Work experience introduces young people to the work environment and can be a valuable part of their education. We recognise that young persons from the local community gain valuable experience of the ‘world of work’ by engaging in a short work experience placement. We currently offer a small number of short-term work experience placements during June and July to students in full-time education at local schools and colleges. These are usually based in our customer and frontline services team.
Skills and experience
Working alongside Library staff, students can expect to:
- Manage our collections through tidying, rearranging, and shelving stock.
- Take part in bespoke activities relating to Library functions, such as helping users over live chat.
- Shadow Library staff on our helpdesk.
- Meet colleagues in other Library teams and learn more about their areas.
- Discover our range of online resources and how they play an important role in supporting learning at university.
