Support for Local Schools and Colleges

A guide for local schools and colleges on the support available from the University Library.

Work experience introduces young people to the work environment and can be a valuable part of their education. We recognise that young persons from the local community gain valuable experience of the ‘world of work’ by engaging in a short work experience placement. We currently offer a small number of short-term work experience placements during June and July to students in full-time education at local schools and colleges. These are usually based in our customer and frontline services team.

Skills and experience

Working alongside Library staff, students can expect to:

  • Manage our collections through tidying, rearranging, and shelving stock.
  • Take part in bespoke activities relating to Library functions, such as helping users over live chat.
  • Shadow Library staff on our helpdesk.
  • Meet colleagues in other Library teams and learn more about their areas.
  • Discover our range of online resources and how they play an important role in supporting learning at university.

Arranging a placement

Please get in touch with us via Library Talk if you would like to discuss a work experience placement for you (if you are a student) or your students (if you are a teacher).
