All About Ebooks

A guide to help staff and students understand the nuanced world of ebooks and make the most of them.

Ebook Packages

One of the ways that we buy ebooks is via packages (you could think of them as bundles of ebooks from a supplier in a subject area).  All our ebooks, regardless of how we buy them are within Library Search, so it is still best to start your search there, however if there is a package that focuses on your subject area you may wish to access it directly to view the titles within it.

An example of a package that is relevant to students and staff across all subjects is Sage Catalyst - an interdisciplinary collection of ebooks on topics such as research methods, study skills and professional practice.

Some things to know about ebook packages

  • We have subscribed to some subject specific ebook packages. The best way to identify those are to visit your Subject Guide.

  • The ebook packages we subscribe to are all unlimited access which means there is no limit to how many people can access and read the ebooks at once.

  • Different platforms will have different layouts and icons, although they all work in broadly the same way with similar features. (This is also true of the providers of our individual ebook purchases too).

  • Remember: you will find all ebooks on Library Search so don't just stick to one ebook package as you may be missing out on content from other ebook providers
