Library Reading Lists : A Guide for Academic Staff

Your Library Reading Lists made easy!

How can I add notes to my Library Reading List?

You can add notes for your students to give extra information or instructions about the items on the reading list -

You can also add notes to the sections on your list.

How can I remove items from my Library reading List?

This video will show you how to remove an item from your reading list

Can I move citations and sections in my Library reading List?

You can move citations around on your reading list, giving you the control over what order they will appear or putting items to the top of the list to highlight them to your students.

You can also move the sections around on the list.

Can I edit items on my Library Reading Lists?

Once an item is on the reading list, you can change some of the details - for example, instead of the whole book you may want students to read one chapter or section, or you may need to change the URL for an online resource such as a website.

How can I send a digitization request for items on my Library Reading List?

You can request a digitized (scanned) copy of a journal article or book chapter which will appear on your list as a pdf. This is useful if you require large numbers of students to read something simultaneously. You can also request a digitized copy of a journal article which we do not have access to through our subscriptions.

For more information about Digitization please have see the Digitizations Library Guide and the Copyright for Library Resources Library Guide

How do I add Due Date my Library Reading List?

Adding a due date for the reading helps students to prioritize and manage their reading schedule. You can make it very clear when the students are expected to have done this reading - either for a specific date or for a week. Students tell us that they find this feature very helpful.

If you do add a due date, please remember that the lists do not rollover and the dates will need to be edited for each semester or academic year that the module runs. Please also be mindful of the module running for TNE programmes that may be using a different date schedule.

How do I send my list for Library Review?

When you have made changes to a reading list, your Liaison Librarian will review these changes and publish the reading list. Until the availability of the items has been checked, the reading list or new edits will not be visible to students.

If you have made changes to a new list, you need to send this to the Library for review

If you have made a change to the list by adding something new, the list will automatically be sent to your Liaison Librarian to check and you will see a message on screen to confirm this.

What does my Library Reading List look like for students?

To view your reading list as your students will see it, you can select 'student view' from top taskbar. Please remember that any unpublished changes will not appear if your Liaison Librarian has not published them!
