Subject Guide: Education

This guide brings together library resources for your studies and research. Use these resources alongside your recommended reading from your tutors to extend your research into new areas

Welcome

Welcome to the Education Resources guide.

This guide highlights some of the key resources you will use throughout your programme to deepen your knowledge of your subject area and to prepare for your assignments.

You will find tips and information about what they are and how to use them.

There is a focus on 'academic literature' (it might also be referred to as the scholarship, scholarly literature or simply the literature by your lecturers). Academic literature refers to the works (books and articles) that are published by researchers most of whom work in universities. These researchers are also called academics. Some of your lecturers will write and publish this academic literature. By joining the University, you are joining the academic community and the expectation is that you will become familiar with, and use this academic literature effectively.

However, as you are studying a vocational or professional course, you might need to refer to other types of literature such as government policy, curriculum documents, etc.

Use this guide to help you identify the right resources for you and your needs.

In addition to this guide, you will see me and my Study Skills colleagues in some of your timetabled sessions to help you further with your research and academic skills.

To get you started you can watch the playlist below which will guide you through some of the basics of using the library services. You could also visit the Library Essentials page which will give you some basic knowledge on how to use the library and its resources.

I am looking forward to working with you.
