Header with text Library Newsletter for Partner Staff

March 2025

In this update University Library Services share library news and links to support we think staff and students at partner centres will find useful. It would be great if you could share these updates with students too where appropriate.

Big Talk 2025 - Student Feedback

The Library is currently running our annual Big Talk campaign which is a survey aiming to understand how students use the library and give students an opportunity to help shape the services they use. It would be great if partner staff could encourage students to participate. The survey will take about 5 minutes to complete and responses are used to improve library services. The survey will close March 31 2025.

About your library username and password

Members of partner staff who have requested access to University of Sunderland Library now have a library username and password. This is different to your main University User ID. Library usernames begin with ‘sun’ and provide access to e-resources such as ebooks and journals (where licenses allow) and the Library Reading List system.

As a reminder: when you log into the library e-resources make sure you are fully signed out of your main University User ID first.

LibKey & Browzine trial

The University Library is running a trial of LibKey Nomad and Browzine. LibKey Nomad is a browser extension that facilitates access to subscribed and open access content. When LibKey Nomad is installed, if you start your research at a publisher's site or if you find a book on Amazon, LibKey will check if the article or book is available from the library.

Browzine is an interface that allows users to browse and access most of the library’s subscribed e-journals from a range of publishers in one place.

You can access Browzine through the ‘Journals Beta’ button on the library homepage.

For more information about LibKey and Browzine visit the LibKey Nomad Library Guide. We’d welcome any feedback about LibKey Nomad – if you’d like to provide some feedback on LibKey Nomad please contact the Distance Services Librarian, Leanne Young.

Spotlight: Cite Them Right

Students and Staff have access to Cite Them Right Online, a comprehensive guide to referencing sources. Not only does Cite Them Right advise students on how to reference many types of sources, it also includes articles on aspects of referencing and academic writing such as quoting, paraphrasing and summarising) as well as articles about understanding plagiarism.

The easiest ways for students to access Cite Them Right are:

  • Through the Databases A-Z list on the library homepage, or
  • By searching for Cite Them Right on Library Search and choosing the ‘Available Online’ filter.
Cite Them Right home page

Both of these methods will guide students to the correct login box.

Partner staff should access Cite Them Right directly via the Cite Them Right webpage. Staff will need to choose the ‘Login via your Institution’ option and search for the University of Sunderland.

Contact the library at University of Sunderland if you need support accessing Cite Them right.

One-to-one support for students

Did you know that students can book one-to-one appointments with the Distance Services Librarian if they have a question or need some support with using library eresources? Students can book available 15 minute slots in the Librarian’s calendar if they would like to have a video call and chat with a librarian.

We’d appreciate it if you could share the information in this newsletter with your students. If you have any questions, get in touch with the Distance Services Librarian, Leanne Young
