Our courses are categorised into English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses and English for Business Studies (EBS) courses. We also have 'Native Speakers' courses designed for students whose first language is English or have English as a fluent second language (e.g. if you completed your secondary education in the UK or if you have studied English to the level/equivalent to IELTS 8 and above.
Each course requires you to attend two hours per week, plus an additional 30 minutes is available for tutorials.
You can choose and book a course to suit your level of English and the skills you would like to focus on via the tabs under 'Book a course'.
Online and on-campus courses are available so you can select the best one to fit around your main timetable.
Registrations for Block A & Block B courses are open from Monday 8 September 2025.
Each semester contains two 5-week teaching blocks (Block A, Block B, Block C, Block D:
Semester 1
EAP Block A : 6 October 2025 - 6 November 2025
EAP Block B: 24 November 2025 - 15 January 2026
EBS Block A: 20 October 2025 - 20 November 2025
EBS Block B: 5 January 2026 - 5 February 2026
Semester 2
EAP Block C: 2 February 2026 - 5 March 2026
EAP Block D: 20 April 2026 - 21 May 2026
EBS Block C: 23 February 2026 - 26 March 2026
EBS Block D: 20 April 2026 - 21 May 2026
*Please note, registration for each block closes at the end of the second week of teaching.
You may pick ONE or TWO 5 week courses per teaching block - up to a maximum of four courses each semester - This limit is to maintain a good balance with your main academic workload and support sustainable progress by ensuring your core studies stay your key focus.
For instance, from the catalogue of existing courses, a student can decide to enrol on 'Developing Academic Writing' and 'Developing Academic Reading' in Block A, then study 'Developing Academic Listening' and 'Developing Academic Speaking' in Block B.
For courses with multiple groups, you must sign up for ONE group only based on your preferences and academic timetable. If you complete a course in a previous block (have attended 60% of sessions), you must not choose the same course again.
Please note, because we understand each student may have different needs and levels of English, there's no prescribed package of courses you must take.
As a general guide to skill level, if you have an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher, the Developing courses are likely to be the most appropriate for you. If your score is lower than 6.5, then the Introduction courses will be most appropriate. If you have a higher IELTS score and wish to start with the Introduction level, you will be able to move up to the Developing level in the next block of teaching.
Unsure which course to take?
If you are unsure which skills you would like to focus on, you can book a one-to-one EAP Support and Advice appointment where one of our academic staff will be happy to guide you.
We are also available every Wednesday in the Language Centre (WV108) between 11am-1pm during the registration period (until October 15, 2025) for in-person drop-ins if you would like to chat to us for advice face to face.
