Funding

Applying for funding is important to enable research to happen. 

The information in the section of the guide support RDF section 3.1

You can apply for funding during or at the end of your PhD. These sources of funding will help support your research. 

Find out about internal research funding opportunities on the Research and Graduate School Sharepoint page (internal only). The research team can also provide some support. 

Research Professional is a source of international research policy and practice news. It also has a database of funding opportunities - you can create customised searches of its content and set up email alerts. Staff and PGR students affiliated with the University of Sunderland shoudl sign in using Pivot-RP. 

You can also consult the individual websites of funders relevant in your field. The UK's main funder is is UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). You can find funding call in on their funding opportunities page.

You might also want to consider opportunities provided by the European Union through their Horizon programme

Learned societies, government departments, charities might also offer research funding opportunities. Ask you supervisor for advice on where to look for relevant funding.
